UNICCO Female Schalors-1

Liberia: – In a heartwarming display of community support and commitment to education, the National Vice President Madame Nenseh Mccabe and National Projector Director George Flomo of the United Nimba Citizens Council (UNICCO) have demonstrated their dedication to the development of Liberia through its Home Coming for Development initiative. The event, held in Central Nimba City of Saclepea in March 2024, underscored UNICCO’s unwavering focus on empowering local communities, particularly through education, health, women empowerment, scholarship, youth capacity building, etc.

The Home Coming for Development, themed “Our Union is Stronger When We Stand Together in Solid One Nimba One People,” was a vibrant celebration that brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including students, business leaders, health workers, motorcyclists, elders, and members of the religious community. The event was not just a showcase of unity but also a testament to UNICCO’s enduring commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals in Nimba County and beyond.

One of the standout moments of the event was the remarkable support extended to two young scholars from Montserrado County, Wuyal S. Kanneh and Antoinette B. Morris, who were warmly received at the Robert’s International Airport by UNICCO National Vice President Madame Nenseh McMccabe, her husband, and UNICCO National Project Director George Flomo.

Wuyal S. Kanneh, a 9th grader, was awarded a generous scholarship of US$150, valued at LRD$28,000, to cover her full school fees for the academic year. Antoinette B. Morris, who was promoted to 8th grade, received US$217, valued at LRD$42,700, to fully fund her school fees. The scholarships were presented as a token of appreciation for their participation in welcoming UNICCO representatives, as well as a broader gesture of support for their academic journeys.

The impact of UNICCO’s generosity extends far beyond the financial relief provided to these students. The parents of both Wuyal and Antoinette expressed their profound gratitude, overwhelmed by the unexpected assistance. Famatta Kanneh, Wuyal’s mother, who hails from Bomi County and a volunteer with Help Minimize Epilepsy in Liberia, was particularly moved. She shared, “I am out of words but want to appreciate God for UNICCO VP and PD. I never knew if my daughter was going to school, and this support has brought immense relief. I am now committed to volunteering with UNICCO as a token of my gratitude.”

Similarly, Antoinette Lapue Johnson, Antonnette’s mother, could not contain her tears of joy. She expressed her deep appreciation for the UNICCO Liberia team who showcased their kid’s talents, stating, “May God bless you all for helping our children through this. We are truly grateful.”

The event and the subsequent support to the students highlight UNICCO’s core mission of fostering educational opportunities and empowering youth. Madame Nenseh McMccabe’s passion for girls’ education and women’s empowerment, alongside George Flomo’s vision of a brighter future for Liberian youth, have been pivotal in driving these initiatives.

Both Wuyal and Antonnette have expressed their sincere thanks and pledged to remain engaged with UNICCO, encouraging their peers to embrace the spirit of service and community support.

As UNICCO continues to make strides in community development, its efforts resonate deeply within Nimba County and across Liberia, proving that collective action and compassion can indeed transform lives and inspire a brighter future for all.
