Janet explained, “I told God in my heart that I can’t go without this despite the challenge.
I will try to see what happens because sometimes ‘violence takes it by force.’ So, I am challenging God, who I think cannot fail me. I need a job and cannot forgo this.”
“We will be glad to see many of the graduates here in our workforce. We are interested in programs that promote socio-economic development, and we can assure you that ArcelorMittal-Liberia is here to stay,” he assured the audience, adding, “As you have walked through the walls of this university, remember that you are entering a world of many challenges and opportunities and should be in the position to face those challenges and opportunities ahead of you.”
AML’s Chief Executive Officer, Joep Coenen; Chief Operation Officer, Adriaan Strydom, and other senior managers officially launched the initiative recently and reaffirmed their support and commitment to upholding the highest environmental standards.
This feat was only possible with the strong support of ArcelorMittal-Liberia’s Management and the commitment and teamwork of the Environmental Department and staff.
“I’m here today selling pepper, okra, cucumber, and rice. The business is good, and people are buying. I feel happy. The next farming season, I’ll make a bigger farm so I can come with more produce. The Conservation Agriculture Program (CAP) and the Village Saving Loan Association (VSLA) are helping me to care for my family. My daughter was sick if not because of the VSLA that loaned me money, it wasn’t going to be easy. I’m grateful to ArcelorMittal-Liberia for this program. It’s helping the farmers and we don’t want it to stop,” Lucy Gonotee, a farmer, who participated in one of the BCP trade fairs shared.
“We have a duty to not just monitor government policies and actions and hold government accountable, but we must apply same to companies and supply needed information to communities through advocacy and offer alternative policies for government, the private sector, and other institutions” said Madame Laura Bee Kiekpo
According to AML’s Government Relations Superintendent Ambrose Gbormie, the contribution came following a request
from District # 2 Representative Prince Tokpah for the company to assist the communities in the rehabilitation of the
road as it has turned deplorable and nearly becoming inaccessible.
“I see it great because other women want to have the chance to do what I am doing, but it’s not easy for them. I feel proud working with AML as a woman in this position, and it only takes you the time to love what you do and grow into it; for a day will come and you will be elevated to the highest,” Mabel said in an interview
