Rep. Taa Wongbe Champions Peace and Humanitarian Support During National Fast and Prayer Day in Nimba

Zekepa: On April 11, 2025, Liberia’s National Fast and Prayer Day, Nimba County Electoral District Nine Representative Hon. Taa Z. Wongbe transformed the national holiday into a moment of leadership, unity, and reconciliation. He traveled to Zekepa, Yarwin Mehnsonnoh Statutory District, to mediate and resolve a long-standing dispute between some citizens of Beinghana, led by James Gloe, and the Ferry Management Team.

This conflict dates back to the establishment of a ferry across the St. John River, a vital economic link between Beinghana in Nimba and Niakepa in Bong County. The late District Nine Representative, Prof. Johnson N. Gwaikolo, constructed the ferry to boost cross-county trade and development. However, disagreements over its management have lingered until now.

Under the guidance of Rep. Wongbe and the Yarwin Mehnsonnoh Statutory District Leadership led by Paul Jackson, the April 11th dialogue brought both parties, local authorities, and the religious community to the table. The meeting ended in unity and mutual appreciation, with all stakeholders commending Rep. Wongbe for his proactive and peaceful resolution of the issue.

Rep. Wongbe emphasized the importance of collective unity, stating, “We must all work together to move our district forward.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Wongbe also addressed a recent tragic incident involving two minors an 11-year-old accidentally shot and killed a 12-year-old while playing with a loaded gun. The victim was from Gbolyee in District Six. In retaliation, some angry citizens from Gbolyee reportedly stormed and burned Moses Saye Village in the Zehnla Administrative District, leaving many families homeless.

Acting swiftly, Rep. Wongbe collaborated with the Liberia National Police, leading to arrests and ongoing investigations to ensure justice. During his visit to the affected families in Kpowin, he donated food and cash for humanitarian assistance. He further instructed his district team to work with the family as he would provide 5 bundles of zinc and 10 bags of cement to help rebuild destroyed homes.

Winston Vaye, speaking on behalf of the Moses Saye family, thanked Rep. Wongbe for standing with them in both good and challenging times. Zehnla Administrative District Commissioner Samuel Dahn and Representatives from Nimba’s Elder Council also expressed their gratitude for the Representative’s hands-on leadership and conflict resolution skills.

The Yarwin Mehnsonnoh Statutory District leadership, under Paul Jackson, echoed similar sentiments, applauding Rep. Wongbe for his unwavering commitment to development and peace across all sectors of the district.

Nimba County Electoral District Nine comprises five administrative districts Blinon, Doe, Gbi & Doru, Mehnsonnoh, and Zehnla, and is home to major tribes including the Gbi, Gio, Mano, Bassa, and a minority Kpelleh population.
