December 05, 2024

UNICCO—It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that Nimba County citizens in the diaspora grieve the passing of Senator Prince Yormie Johnson. A dedicated public servant, esteemed leader, and true patriot, Senator Johnson served Nimba County with resolute commitment and integrity.

Senator Johnson passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, leaving an enduring legacy of service, advocacy, leadership and the admiration of the Liberian people. Throughout his 19-year tenure as a member of the Liberian Senate, Senator Johnson championed policies that transformed communities and uplifted countless lives.

He was instrumental in advancing specific initiatives, including education reforms, healthcare improvements, and infrastructure developments, earning respect from colleagues and citizens alike for his vision.

Hailing from Nyor-Gomahplay, District #5, Nimba County, the senator rose to prominence as a passionate advocate for unity amongst the people of Nimba and Liberia at large. He embodied the values of justice, equality, impartiality, and service to others. Beyond the halls of government, he was known as a devoted Christian, family person, parent, mentor, and friend to many.

As we reflect on his extraordinary contributions to our county and nation, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many.

Senator Johnson was not only a legislator but also a beacon of hope and an inspiration to all who knew him.

United Nimba Citizens’ Council (UNICCO), one of the oldest Liberian nonprofit organizations in the diaspora, will continue to promote peace in fostering unity in Liberia as it did, when it was represented at the Banjul, Gambia Peace Accord.

As we mourn this tremendous loss, we are reminded of Senator Johnson’s powerful words: “Let us rise above our differences and build a nation where justice, peace and prosperity reign.”

UNICCO extends its deepest condolences to Senator Johnson’s family, friends, colleagues, citizens of Nimba County and all citizens of Liberia during this time of loss.

As we mourn this tremendous loss, we are reminded of Senator Johnson’s powerful words: “Let us rise above our differences and build a nation where justice, peace and prosperity reign.”
