Amb Edmund Walakewon Gbarwee
UNICCO National Liberia Country Representative
Your Humble Servant
Nimba County Liberia West Africa: – In 2019 as Nimba D-9 TV, Nimba County first primer online television, we played host for the first time to now Former UNICCO National President Dahn Dennis and that interview activated a lot of things and fast forward set a path for growth.
Immediately after that interview, some Nimba County Students currently studying in The Kingdom of Morocco were part of Liberia bilateral scholarship students protesting for their allowances etc which I according to them was delayed or was not forth coming.
The security apparatus in Morocco as way of providing security were made to restored calm though some Liberian students were arrested etc.
Bill Specter Yelegar was the Lead Campaigner alongside William Es Tiawan II , Sharon Tarpeh and others.
We immediately launch a campaign for these students using Nimba D-9 TV and by extension personally visited Nimba 54th Lawmakers up Capitol Hill as way of intervening in this situation for the students of Nimba.
As Liberian and a student at the time attending The Adventist University of West Africa studying Public Health, we were indeed inspired to take on this challenge for our fellow colleagues in Morocco.
We couldn’t do for all the Liberian students there because our capacity was not by than more to spread out. We are sorry of that had you to feel bad fellow colleagues.
Fast forward, United Nimba Citizens Council -UNICCO National President Dah K Dennis called on the Project Director James Harris, the Vice President Elaine Blanton including all Board of Directors, Chapter Presidents and Board Members including well-meaning sons and daughters of Nimba in helping these 10 Nimba Students by then in Morocco.
USD$1,600 was raised in no time and was sent to them in Morocco, funds which helped not only Nimba County Students but other Liberian students in easing the long standing protestation giving room for the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education to adjust and started providing the normal allowances to all Liberians. Rep Johnson N Gwaikolo of Nimba County Electoral District Nine and Former UNICCO National President equally jumped in and provided some support.
Fast forward after bridging the Nimba students with UNICCO National, The Former President Dahn K Dennis immediately reached out to me in serving as UNICCO National Public Relations Officer for Liberia Office under now Former UNICCO National Liberia Country Representative Atty Phelecia Yeebahn . The ever potent SG of UNICCO National James Yormie EA prepared my letter of appointment. This was a beginning of a new day of volunteerism.
Me and my family including the wonderful and supportive team at The One Nimba House Media Inc which owns and operates Nimba D-9 TV including other businesses graciously accepted and started to serve.
Fast forward in December 2019, the first ever UNICCO National December To Remember 2019 a home coming day event inclusive of providing support to different sectors in Nimba was launched in Gompa that gave birth to UNICCO Women Empowerment Center located six kilometers away from Gompa on the Gompa – Gbarnga Highway in Domahpa at “UNICCO-VILLAGE”.
Fast forward COVID-19 engulfed the globe but as a Public Health Student we worked with a very humble and kind hearted personality in person of Nimba County Community Radio Association President Kennedy Domah when Tappita was declared as Red Zone with the first death reported of Don Patrick may his soul including all souls departed rest in peace who came from the USA for some family activities including some media practitioners who were also quarantined, we were the only media team to have reached out in getting the reality of what was happening in Tappita live. See attached photos below of us in Tappita.
Data collected from across Nimba provided a strong documentary backing for Hon Pharmacist Joseph N. Sunwabe, Superintendent Nelson Korquoi , including the County Health Team that led for the first time in Nimba County History for sons and daughters of the county residing in the Diaspora who themselves were hugely affected to have raised a little over USD$14,000 that was distributed live on Nimba D-9 TV in Gompa at the Concern Women Hall USD$600 each on all the 19 Administrative District of Nimba as way of fighting against COVID-19.
UNICCO was also very supportive in the success stories of Nimba County Sports Steering Committee, equally provided assistance to the Jackson F. Doe Regional Referral Hospital in Tappita, still providing scholarship amongst other services including support to disaster victims etc.
UNICCO National continue to identify with Nimba County citizens both home and in the Diaspora in good and tough times.
In May 2022 in Ohio, President Dahn K Dennis, Vice President Elaine Blanton and Board Chair now Representative of Rhode Island District #3 successfully turned over power through a peaceful transition to now President Samuel Wogbeh Gee his Vice President and Board Chair Nixon Zor.
George Flomo was immediately appointed as he took over respectfully from Sir Former Project Director James Wuo Harris a very humble and kind hearted personality.
The New Project Director has since hit the grounds running for growth.
During the Inauguration, I was announced as UNICCO National Liberia Country Representative.
