Zwedru City, Liberia: – On August 27, 2024 residents of Zwedru City urgently called for intervention as uncontrolled cattle movement creates a hazardous environment in the city. The increasing presence of these animals has led to a wave of complaints, with citizens demanding prompt action from city officials and local authorities.
In recent weeks, community members have expressed their frustrations on local radio, highlighting the growing menace posed by the roaming cattle. They argue that immediate action is necessary to safeguard public safety and ensure the well-being of the residents.
Mr. Jonathan Twah, a concerned resident, pointed out that this issue is not new but has persisted since the tenure of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Despite numerous appeals, authorities have yet to implement effective measures to address the problem.
“Cattle are endangering lives, destroying crops, damaging infrastructure, and creating significant problems for local businesses,” Mr. Twah said. “It’s clear that the local authority has been neglectful, and the situation has now reached a breaking point.”
Other residents share similar concerns and warn that if the problem is not addressed within the next month, they may take more drastic steps to protect their community.
The residents urged the local government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent further escalation of this issue.
