Sanniquellie, Nimba, Liberia: – Nimba County Health Officer, Dr. Netty Joe, has lauded ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) for her unwavering commitment to healthcare improvement in the county.

One of the standout contributions mentioned by Dr. Joe was AML’s swift response to address the deteriorating condition of the GW Harley Hospital.

The hospital’s leaking and damaged roof had become a pressing concern, impacting the facility’s ability to provide quality healthcare.

“In a commendable move, AML undertook the task of deroofing and reroofing the hospital, ensuring a safe and dry environment for both patients and medical staff”, she added.

“Not stopping at roof repairs, AML demonstrated their dedication by painting the entire hospital structure, further rejuvenating the aging facility”

Additionally, Dr Joe noted AML constructed a vital walkway connecting the main hospital building to the laboratory, significantly improving accessibility, especially during inclement weather.

The GW Harley Hospital’s laboratory, initially built by AML during the Ebola outbreak, had been transformed into an administrative building. However, AML stepped in revamped and upgraded this laboratory to meet modern healthcare standards.

Dr. Joe emphasized the laboratory’s crucial role, highlighting its capacity to conduct a wide range of tests, including urine, kidney, liver function, and bacterial culture.

A noteworthy adjustment was the connection of the laboratory building to the central hospital structure, improving the convenience and efficiency of laboratory work while also ensuring that staff and patients could move seamlessly between the two facilities regardless of the weather.

Dr. Joe went on to describe how AML had further shown its commitment to community health by supporting a medical outreach program in communities affected by its operations, including Gbapa and Bonadi.

This three-day medical outreach initiative she said played a crucial role in promoting healthcare and community well-being in these areas.

Furthermore, AML’s ongoing support for healthcare in Nimba was highlighted, with the company constructing clinics in Zuluye and Gbarpa, to additionally solidify support to the healthcare sector.
