Community Development in Action

By: Nimba D-9 TV Staff Writer

Grand Bassa County, Liberia: A wave of excitement swept through Gunnigar Town as residents gathered to witness a new chapter in their community’s story, the official dedication of a modern town hall built by ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) in partnership with Grand Bassa County authorities.

Valued at over US$57,600 and sitting proudly on 1.7 acres of land, the newly constructed facility stands not just as a building of bricks and mortar, but as a symbol of unity, dialogue, and forward movement. The project was funded through the company’s Community Development Fund (CDF), reinforcing its pledge to invest in the future of its host communities.

For the people of Gunnigar Town in Buchanan, this is more than infrastructure; it is a long-awaited gathering place. The town hall features office space, a latrine, chairs for public meetings, and a generator to ensure activities continue even when power is unavailable. It is designed to host community meetings, settle local matters, plan development initiatives, and strengthen the collective voice of residents.

During the dedication ceremony, joy and gratitude filled the air. Community members described the project as timely and transformative, noting that for years they held meetings in informal spaces that could not accommodate the growing needs of the population.

“Today, they now have a dignified environment to discuss issues affecting their lives and future,” said an excited Elder.

Local leaders and company representatives praised the strong collaboration that brought the project to life. They emphasized that sustainable development is built on a partnership between communities, local government, and the private sector.

“This town hall represents progress,” one local official remarked. “It shows what can be achieved when we work together.”

The dedication of the Gunnigar Town Hall highlights ArcelorMittal Liberia’s continued commitment to empowering communities in Grand Bassa County and beyond. Through initiatives like this, the company says it remains focused on creating lasting impact, not only through mining operations, but by supporting social infrastructure that improves everyday life.

For the residents of Gunnigar Town, the new hall is already being called “the people’s house,” a place where ideas will be shared, decisions will be made, and the future of the community will be shaped.

Nimba D-9 TV will continue to follow stories of growth and development across Liberia, bringing you closer to the people and the progress shaping our nation.
