Tappita, Nimba County – Unconfirmed but credible reports from Lower Nimba County indicate that local journalist Alex S. Yormie, a Dan-language announcer at Radio Lar-wehyi, has been forcibly taken into the Poro Society bush, allegedly on the orders of Nimba County Cultural Superintendent Hon. Melvin Gbeilah Duo.
According to sources, Yormie’s on-air discussion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ (MIA) recent suspension of Poro and Sande society activities nationwide prompted the incident. The journalist is said to have read from an official communication issued by the Tappita Statutory Superintendent’s Office, confirming enforcement of the national moratorium as mandated by Internal Affairs Minister Francis F. Nyumali Sr.
Superintendent Duo reportedly accused Yormie of “provoking traditional authority,” referencing a controversial statement made during the broadcast: “He (Yormie) said wherever the ‘devil’ is found, they should catch it, put a curve on its hand, and take it to the police station.”
Following this, Yormie was allegedly seized and is now being held in a Poro society detention zone, with reports suggesting he may not be released until the mid-July 2025 date previously set for traditional confinement releases.
