Liberian Engineer Champions Grassroots Innovation and Inclusive Leadership

AML Engineer

Yekepa, Liberia – July 2025:– ArcelorMittal Liberia’s commitment to fostering innovation, leadership, and continuous professional development was on full display during its recent Learning Week, an annual initiative aimed at building a resilient, skilled, and forward-thinking workforce.

A highlight of the week was an impactful session facilitated by Joseph Fallah, Rail Maintenance Planning Engineer, who advocated for a ‘bottom-to-top leadership approach’ that values and amplifies innovation from every level of the organization.

Future-Ready Leadership from the Ground Up

Titled “Future Ready Leadership: Inspiring Innovation at Every Level,” Fallah’s session challenged conventional leadership models and encouraged AML leaders to empower frontline employees to contribute ideas, take initiative, and drive change.

“Innovation doesn’t always start in the boardroom,” Fallah emphasized. “Often, the most practical and impactful solutions come from those who are closest to the daily operations. We must create avenues for these voices to be heard and for these brilliant ideas to be celebrated.”

His message resonated strongly with attendees, many of whom reflected on the importance of inclusive leadership in building a sustainable corporate culture. Fallah underscored that future-ready organizations are those that not only embrace change but also actively cultivate leadership from within, especially among employees with first-hand operational knowledge.

A Call for Recognition and Inclusion

During the interactive session, participants shared their own experiences and discussed ways AML could further strengthen internal communication and innovation-sharing systems. Among the attendees was Enice Fallah, who praised the session’s relevance and suggested organizing a follow-up exclusively for supervisors, team leaders, and managers.

“The session was interesting and made me realize how important it is to keep pushing,” she said. “One day, someone will notice your hard work. More people in leadership should be exposed to this kind of session—it reminds them of the impact they have on our growth.”

ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Broader Learning Culture

ArcelorMittal Liberia, the largest foreign direct investment in the country’s post-war history, operates a world-class integrated mining and logistics system including a railway, port, and mining operations in Yekepa. The company continues to invest in its human capital through initiatives like Learning Week, which promotes a culture of excellence, innovation, and empowerment.

Through tailored sessions on leadership, digital transformation, technical skills, and workplace collaboration, AML aims to equip employees with the tools they need to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to the company’s long-term success.

Fallah’s session exemplified AML’s broader strategic goal: to build a leadership pipeline that is inclusive, adaptable, and inspired by the collective intelligence of its people.
