TAPPITA, NIMBA COUNTY – In response to the recent outbreak of the M-Pop disease in Liberia, JFD Hospital in Tappita City has launched a vigorous public awareness campaign to educate citizens on prevention and early detection.

The campaign kicked off on May 21, 2025, with an outreach tour in the Tappita General Market. The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Victor Kaizer, CEO of JFD Hospital, who led a team of health workers to engage directly with residents.

According to Dr. Kaizer, the campaign is the hospital’s proactive approach to keeping communities informed and prepared. “We are committed to making sure our people are not left in the dark. Awareness is the first step to prevention,” he emphasized. He also reaffirmed the hospital’s dedication to expanding its community engagement as efforts to eliminate M-Pop intensify across Liberia.

The Nursing Department, under the leadership of Mrs. Margaret Care, Director of Nursing Services, played a central role in the outreach. The team communicated in local languages, including Mano, Gio, and other dialects, ensuring the message reached everyone.

More than 1,500 marketers and residents attended the session. The health team focused on educating the public about M-Pop symptoms and shared key preventative measures such as avoiding large gatherings, minimizing physical contact like handshakes and hugs, and practicing social distancing.

The campaign is set to continue in neighborhoods across Tappita and surrounding communities. Citizens who participated in the awareness drive expressed gratitude and pledged to adopt the preventive measures shared. Many are also committed to spreading the message to friends and family to curb the disease’s spread.

“This disease is real,” said one market woman. “We will do our part to protect ourselves and help inform others.”

As the campaign progresses, JFD Hospital remains at the forefront of the fight against M-Pop, reinforcing its role as a pillar of public health in Nimba County.
