Ritualistic Killing and Mob Violence in Nimba County Again?

Bahn Nimba County: – On November 30, 2022, a motorcyclist only identified as Alpha Harris age 19, was killed by some unknown men in Bahn City, Nimba County.

According to a Community Dweller, “Alpha Harris, was hired by a friend who lives in Bahn to transport him to a nearby town and while on their way, the passenger asked Alpha Harris to come with him in the bush so he can get money from his boss to pay the bike fare. After the passenger who happens to be Alpha’s friend and him entered the bush, he got allegedly attacked by his friend along with three other guys that were already placed in the bush to carry on said ritualistic act’’.

He furthered added that, ‘’While Alpha was fighting and crying for his life, there was another young man who was fishing in the nearby swamp, when he heard the crying of Alpha Harris, he decided to creped and see what was going on, unfortunately the crying ceased. To the fisherman’s utmost surprised he saw four guys dragging the body of late Alpha. When those men spotted him, he decided to run for his life and started yelling for help’’ he added.

 Fortunately for the fisherman who saw them, ran to Bahn City and narrated the story, and allegedly called names of those he saw carrying on such act.  The next day which was Dec 1, 2022, angry crowd were able to identified and execute two of those guys that the fisherman was able to identified in the act of alleged ritualistic act.

 When health workers assigned in Bahn City Nimba got on the scene to do an assessment as mandated by the police, they saw one dead body, who might be one of the alleged perpetrators. But according to community dwellers, two suspects were identified and taken down the river instantly.

The Police in Bahn City Nimba County continues investigation into this situation.

In can be recalled On September 30, 2015 a mob ransacked the Alvino Hotel in Ganta, owned by Prince Howard, burnt down his private residence and even destroyed the three-store minimart, speculating that he was behind a ritual murdered that allegedly had been committed in the city. The suspected ritualistic killing was the third murder in Nimba County within a relatively short period of time. As repeatedly said, the phenomenon of ritual killings has never completely disappeared in Liberia with Nimba County being of no exception. The death of a motorcyclist by the hands of a ritual killer was followed by widespread riots. At one point, the government even decided to impose a curfew.

In recent months, there has been reports of alleged ritualistic killings in Nimba County Electoral District Eight (8) though with no arrest made thus far.

In August 2022 Jeremiah Gonlehyen went to Prince Howard, CEO of Alvino Hotel in Ganta City saying he wants to sell his child to the businessman as to better his life.

Immediately Price Howard CEO of Alvino Hotels asked him to allow them to do the recording for further reference and will pay him the said amount. Howard knowing what he went through in 2015 got the police involved and Jeremiah was arrested and is now undergoing trial in Sanniquellie Nimba County.

In other development, a man believed to be in his 40s has killed his wife in Sanniquellie over her alleged refusal to have sexual intercourse with her though she was cooking for them to have meal in the evening hours of Sunday night.

He allegedly cop his wife several times with cutlass leading to her death. He has been arrested by citizens of the community and turnover to The Liberian National Police awaiting court trial in Sanniquellie while the deceased has been buried.
