Maryland, Liberia: – The National Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (NFRUL) has officially handed over a newly constructed general parking terminal in Pleebo Sodoken District #2, Maryland County. The facility, valued at nearly USD 4,500, is set to benefit not only Maryland County residents but also travelers and businesspeople from the southeastern region of Liberia, including marketeers and street vendors who frequently commute to neighboring Ivory Coast for trade.
A Landmark Achievement for Pleebo Sodoken District
The dedication ceremony was attended by a high-profile delegation led by District #2 Representative Anthony F. Williams, along with local government officials, business leaders, marketers, motorcyclists, religious figures, rural women, and youth groups. The presence of these stakeholders underscored the significance of the new terminal in addressing long-standing transportation and commerce challenges in the district.
In his remarks, Rep. Williams commended the Pleebo branch of the National Federation of Road Transport Union for its leadership and determination in bringing the project to fruition. He described the initiative as an unprecedented milestone that will significantly enhance transportation regulation, promote organized vehicle parking, and facilitate commerce in Pleebo Sodoken District and southeastern Liberia as a whole.
Addressing Transportation Challenges
For years, the lack of a well-structured terminal in Pleebo has posed significant challenges, making it difficult to regulate drivers, vehicles, and motorcycle users. The newly established terminal is expected to serve as a critical solution, ensuring improved order and efficiency in local transportation services.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Arku G. Kollie, President of the NFRUL Maryland County Chapter, recalled the dire state of the union before his administration took over. He lamented that the organization was previously inactive but emphasized that under his leadership, the union has experienced significant transformation, particularly in key operational sectors.
Call for Unity and Development
Mr. Kollie reiterated his commitment to making the union even more vibrant but emphasized the need for collective efforts from all citizens. He urged the people of Pleebo Sodoken District #2 to set aside political differences and work together for the growth and development of the area.
Expressing gratitude, Mr. Kollie acknowledged Rep. Williams for his generous donation of approximately thirteen bundles of zinc, which contributed significantly to the construction of the terminal. He also extended appreciation to other lawmakers, stakeholders, local government officials, religious leaders, youths, and traditional women leaders for their support in making the initiative a reality.
The event marked a significant step in improving transportation services and economic activities in Maryland County. With the terminal now operational, stakeholders believe that local businesses and commuters will experience smoother, safer, and more organized transport services.
